Food and Friendship Ministry
The Heart of Our Community: Food & Friendship Ministries
At Capitol Hill UMC, we strive to be the heart of God in our community, and our Food & Friendship Ministries is one of our core expressions of that mission. It's more than just providing a meal; it's extending loving hospitality and genuine friendship to our neighbors, housed and unhoused alike. We believe that regardless of our background, we all share a common need for connection, and this ministry is where we find it.
A Ministry of Love, Day In and Day Out
Every single morning, year-round, our doors open to welcome all who are hungry for nourishment and connection. From the simple act of sharing breakfast cereal when our "Our Daily Bread" program began 15 years ago, to the thriving ministry it is today, we've grown into a vital lifeline for our community.
We've been able to connect people with social workers, health care workers, and Bible study, all while sharing a warm meal. And when the pandemic shifted our world, our "Grab-n-Go" weekend meals ensured that our spirit of generosity never wavered. With the dedication of over 60 incredible volunteers, we served nearly 10,000 meals last year alone, each one an act of love and dignity.
