CHUMC SAGE (Seniors Always Growing and Evolving) MInistry

The SAGE Ministry of CHUMC provides a sacred place for CHUMC seniors (ages 50 and up) to be in ministry with and for one another. SAGE stands for Seniors Always Growing and Evolving, and in this name is captured our mission — to support the spiritual growth and formation of our CHUMC seniors. SAGE is open to all, and we especially invite those over age 60 to join in our meetings and activities.

SAGEs provide support and encouragement for one another — supporting each other in our journeys of faith, helping one another in addressing life challenges, and fellowshipping with one another through social and educational activities. The SAGE Ministry seeks to meet some of the deep needs of our CHUMC seniors:

  • Give voice: it is place where we can share, be heard, and find sympathetic support;

  • Share life’s concerns: it is a place where we lift up concerns about life and discuss them among a cohort of caring people;

  • Share wisdom through experience: we share with one another and learn from on another (and other invited guests) the wisdom we have attained through our life experiences;

  • Offer friendship: we develop and deepen friendships and common interests among the SAGES;

  • Affirmation: it is a place where we are valued and respected for who we are. It offers a counter to the cultural values that diminish and disrespect seniors and the aging process.
