Our Church cornerstone reminds us of the beginning of a journey that has spanned 50 years and continues into the future! It is time to celebrate; so mark your calendar and make your travel plans! We’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the building of CHUMC:
- Saturday, November 7, 2015
8:30am – Breakfast
9:00am-12:00pm – Service projects in and around our community (more info below).
- Sunday, November 8, 2015
9:30am – Breakfast
10:45am – Worship
12:15pm – Lunch at Hawk ‘n’ Dove
Join in these opportunities to serve, worship, and party with friends old and new. But more than a celebration of the past, consider this another cornerstone – another beginning – of ministry long into the future.

Here is more info about the Saturday Service Opportunities:
- Anacostia River Care
Volunteers will work with the Anacostia Watershed Society to plant trees and other native plants to help mitigate storm water run-off. This project will take place near University Park Elementary School in University Park, MD. It is recommended that youth participants be at least 13 years of age. Fall is a great time to plant, so we will be good creation care stewards by helping with this planting to improve the long-term sustainability of the Anacostia River.

- Thanksgiving Basket Preparation
Volunteers will assemble the baskets and packaged goods for the Capitol Hill Group Ministry Thanksgiving basket turkey dinner giveaway. This family- and child-friendly activity will gather in CHUMC’s parlor to assemble the baskets in preparation for the upcoming holiday giveaway. Children may make cards to accompany the basket as well. In addition, this group will assemble lunch bags for the next day’s CHUMC Café giveaway.

- CHUMC Fellowship Hall Makeover
Volunteers will help with a makeover of our CHUMC fellowship hall. This space has been the heart of our larger fellowship gatherings, holiday feasts, community gatherings, Café CHUMC, and Our Daily Bread breakfasts for the last half century and it could use a little TLC. Join us as we apply some fresh paint, create and install wall hangings, and add other creative touches to our beloved Fellowship Hall.
