Ebenezer Capitol Hill Cooperative Parish Council

Building a Cooperative Parish

On July 1, 2005, CHUMC became part of a cooperative parish with our neighbor Ebenezer United Methodist Church. CHUMC and Ebenezer UMC continue as two distinct congregations, but are invited to work together to share ministry in ways that help us make a more faithful witness for Jesus Christ on Capitol Hill.

The 10 member Ebenezer Capitol Hill Cooperative Parish Council (ECHCPC) is made up of 8 lay members, four from each congregation, and the Reverends Ginger Gaines-Cirelli and John Blanchard.

The ECHCPC meets every fourth Tuesday of the month, with the meeting location alternating each month between Ebenezer and CHUMC. For more information about the cooperative parish, contact Pastor Ginger or Student Associate Dottie Yunger.

Check the calendar to learn of upcoming combined worship services between Ebenezer and CHUMC.

Organ Restoration Project

Organ Restoration Project

"….I have yet to hear another instrument in North America that comes as close to duplicating the massive effect of the Willis organ at the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool, England."
--- Letourneau Organ Company

Thanks for supporting the organ restoration project!

The organ at Capitol Hill United Methodist Church was built in 1939 by one of the most renowned organ builders of the early 20th century.

A tonal masterpiece...

The organ at CHUMC was built in 1939 by Richard O. Whitelegg, one of the most renowned organ builders/designers of the early 20th Century.

The organ is one of the few original Whitelegg organs still in existence that has had few alterations and is considered a true musical treasure and a "tonal masterpiece."

Join a Small Group

Small Groups are groups of 5 - 8 people who meet regularly to focus
on each other's spiritual development. In a fast-growing church like
ours, small groups are an opportunity to form deeper bonds with members
of the congregation and get to know each other in a more intimate
setting.

Here's what one small group member had to say about her experience:

"My small group has helped me get connected with CHUMC in new ways and has allowed me to explore my call more fully. It's comforting to share my journey with others who are exploring their own journey in Christ."

What is the Discipleship Adventure?

Capitol Hill UMC is part of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of United Methodist churches. The conference’s Bishop John Schol has launched the Discipleship Adventure program to help pastors, lay people, and churches move forward in making disciples for Jesus Christ.

The Discipleship Adventure lays out five paths for churches and individuals to follow in order to grow and mature in faith.

The first three steps of the Discipleship Adventure are internal ones. We are to:

  • Celebrate through worship. We celebrate the significance of God in our lives and live all of life as though it were the worship of God;
  • Connect through fellowship. First we connect with God and then with others to build up the body of Christ;
